Integrated Development Environment

When using AVR studio as a Integrated Development Environment for writing and debugging AVR applications, the user get some powerfull features:

Easy to use Source file editor with syntax coloring
Project management view with different targets, groups and files
Edit while debugging in the same window.
Breakpoints are kept also after editing

Creating a new project
From the project menu, select new project. The following dialog will appear:

The user have now two choices:

AVR Assembler

Included with AVR Studio is the Atmel AVR assembler.

Generic 3rd party compiler/assembler

Select this and you can use any 3rd party command line tool. The support for this is still in an early stage, and we reccomend this only for advanced users.

Select your type of project, and enter your project name. Click ok and the Project window appears. You can now add files, groups or targets to the project.

The future releases of AVR Studio will include other project types supporting specific 3rd party vendors and tools.

Saving and opening projects
All projects are saved with your selected name with the ending .apr. When the user wants to reopen a project, this can be done under the file menu and the recently used file list, or under the project menu, open project.

Project toolbar
The following commands are available on the toolbar:

Copy

Active when text is selected.

Paste

The user can paste clipboard text in any source window.

Undo

Undo the last n actions/edits in source window.

Redo

Redo n actions.

Find

Search for text in source window.

Build and run the project

Build the project and automatically start debugging if no errors detected

Project Output view
After building,assembling or compiling the project, the output window prompts with messages. If any errors occur, the user can double-click on the message, and the marker will show correct position in the source window.
